Artist Statement
Veronica Ryan-Silverberg was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, in a cold water flat, an upbringing that played a pivotal role in shaping her perspective on the world and her artistic trajectory. The gritty landscape of her neighborhood served as a foundational influence, informing her early artistic sensibilities.
In her formative years, Veronica’s embarked on a journey that led her to Amsterdam, where she not only opened a restaurant but also discovered her talent for crafting costumes for the realm of television and film. Upon returning to New York City, she pursued a fashion design degree at FIT and lent her creative prowess to the design of high-end women’s fashion for several years.
Yet, Veronica’s insatiable curiosity and exploration of the unconscious mind steered her toward a career as a psychoanalyst, specializing in trauma and issues of attachment. Concurrently, her passion for photography reignited her connection with the city streets, rekindling her interest in city landscape and the rawness of urban decay, as well as the visual language that shapes one’s sense of self and alienation. This exploration delved into the profound impact that humanity leaves on the environment.
Upon retirement, Veronica transitioned into a full-time artist. She skillfully incorporated photography, painting, and mixed media into her art as a means of accessing and expressing feelings of both alienation and connection. Regardless of the medium she engages with, Veronica’s work serves as a reflection of her inner state of expression, with the intention of resonating with the viewer on a deeply emotional level. It is a profound exploration of two intersubjective worlds that together create an engaging and transformative experience for the observer. The ultimate aspiration is that her work will activate feelings, sensations, and memories, effectively inviting the viewer to participate in the creative act itself.
Veronica Ryan-Silverberg’s art stands as a testament to her multifaceted journey and her ability to convey the complexities of identity and connection through her art. Her painting, photography and mixed media has been showcased in numerous group exhibitions in New York City.
